| AUGSBURG TABLE |

table from Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire required extensive conservation
work.
Treatments
included relaying of veneer, replacement of losses, cleaning and wax

THE CHISWICK
TABLES
|
 |

 |
These important tables were bought
by English Heritage in 1996, and required extensive investigation work
before conservation could begin. Analysis showed that the tables had
suffered from many overlayers of paint, oil, gilding and varnish which
necessitated extremely careful and intricate conservation work. In
order to loosen the overlayers of decoration, Tankerdale developed
a new technique by adapting an electric engraving tool. The process
was extremely successful enabling the surface layers to be flaked away
to reveal the original layer of gilding. |

COROMANDEL
LACQUER SCREEN
|
 |
 |
This
late seventeenth century coromandel lacquer screen had been built
into the walls of Lamb House in Lewes. The screen had been hidden under
later layers of paint and wallpaper since the mid-eighteenth century
until its recent re-discovery. This was a major conservation project,
grant aided by English Heritage, to restore the panels for display
in their original location. |

| BROWN FURNITURE |
This wardrobe suffered both heat and water damage as the result of a house fire.
The treatment carried out included relaying loose veneers, removing the perished
surface polish and restoring to match the original finish.
